Specificity Comments:
The nm23 gene, a potential suppressor of metastasis, was identified by differential hybridization between murine melanoma sub-lines with varying metastatic capacities. Highly metastatic cells show lower nm23 expression. Sequence analysis shows nm23 is related to nucleotide diphosphate kinases (NDP). In humans, NDP kinases A and B correspond to nm23-H1 and nm23-H2, respectively. nm23-H2 is identical to PuF, a transcription factor binding to the human c-Myc promoter region.


Target Information

NME1 was discovered due to reduced mRNA levels in highly metastatic cells. Nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDK) forms a hexamer composed of A (NME1) and B (NME2) isoforms. Mutations in NME1 are linked to aggressive neuroblastomas. Two transcript variants encode distinct isoforms. Co-transcription with the downstream NME2 gene produces fusion transcripts (NME1-NME2) encoding a hybrid protein sharing sequences from both genes.
