Specificity Comments:
The nm23 gene, a potential suppressor of metastasis, was originally identified by differential hybridization between two murine melanoma sub-lines with varying metastatic capacities. Highly metastatic sub-lines show lower nm23 levels than less metastatic cells.
Based on sequence analysis, nm23 is closely related to nucleotide diphosphate kinases (NDP). In humans, NDP kinases A and B correspond to nm23-H1 and nm23-H2, respectively. nm23-H2 is identical to PuF, a transcription factor binding to nuclease hypersensitive elements within the c-Myc promoter.


Target Information

NME1 was identified due to reduced mRNA transcript levels in highly metastatic cells.
Nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDK) forms a hexamer composed of A (encoded by NME1) and B (encoded by NME2) isoforms.
Mutations in NME1 are associated with aggressive neuroblastomas.
Two transcript variants encode different isoforms.
Co-transcription of NME1 and neighboring NME2 generates naturally occurring transcripts (NME1-NME2) encoding a fusion protein with sequences from both gene products.
