Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays critical roles in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK is functionally linked to cell proliferation and regulation.

c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis in tumor development. The c-Myc oncogene (p62 c-myc) regulates normal cellular proliferation and differentiation, while deregulated expression can induce apoptosis.
Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc tags fused to target proteins.

Amplification of the c-Myc gene is observed in several human tumors (lung, breast, colon), while N-Myc amplification is common in neuroblastomas.
Chromosomal translocations involving the c-Myc locus (chromosome 8) and immunoglobulin loci (chromosomes 14, 2, or 22) are characteristic of Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell proliferative disorders.
Aberrant c-Myc expression occurs in tumors of diverse origins including colorectal, gastric, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, thyroidal, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
