FABP1 (Fatty Acid Binding Protein 1) encodes the fatty acid binding protein found in liver.
Fatty acid binding proteins are a family of small, highly conserved, cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands.
FABP1 and FABP6 (ileal fatty acid binding protein) can also bind bile acids.
These proteins are thought to be involved in fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism.
