Product Specific Information
- In direct ELISAs, approximately 15% cross-reactivity with recombinant mouse LDLR is observed.
- Reconstitute at 0.2 mg/mL in sterile PBS.
Target Information
The low density lipoprotein receptor (LDL-R) gene family consists of cell surface proteins involved in receptor-mediated endocytosis of specific ligands. LDL binds to the cell membrane and is internalized, leading to degradation in lysosomes and cholesterol release. This process regulates HMG CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol synthesis, and stimulates cholesterol ester synthesis.
Mutations in the LDL-R gene cause familial hypercholesterolemia. LDL-R, along with SCARB1, CLDN1, and CD81, also acts as an entry factor for Hepatitis C virus. At least three isoforms of LDL-R are known.
