Product Specific Information
- Dilution Recommendation: Use polypropylene tubes and pipet tips when diluting this interferon.
- Further dilutions should be made in a buffered solution containing a carrier protein such as BSA.
- Optimal concentration should be determined for each specific application.
Target Information
IFN alpha (Interferon alpha) is a Type I interferon belonging to a family of structurally related, species-specific proteins exclusive to vertebrates. Interaction of IFN-alpha with its receptor activates multiple signaling pathways involved in innate immune response against viral infection.
In humans, the IFN alpha gene is located on chromosome 9. Type I interferons include 14 alpha isoforms and single beta, omega, epsilon, and kappa isoforms. Homologous molecules are found in various species including mice, rats, birds, reptiles, and fish.
IFN alpha is primarily produced by plasmacytoid dendritic cells and plays a key role in antiviral innate immunity and modulation of adaptive immunity. Dysfunctions of IFN alpha are associated with diseases such as Hepatitis C and Hepatitis.
