Target Information
Anti-sperm antibodies are associated with unexplained infertility and may block fertilization. Identification of sperm antigens such as SPAG6 aids in diagnosing immunologic infertility and developing targeted contraception. SPAG6 localizes to the tail of permeabilized human sperm and contains eight contiguous armadillo repeats, which mediate protein-protein interactions. Mouse studies suggest its involvement in sperm flagellar motility and structural integrity. Multiple alternatively spliced variants exist, with two full-length sequences identified.
