PBX4는 pre-B cell leukemia transcription factor 계열에 속하는 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질군은 배아 발달과 세포 분화에서 중요한 역할을 하며, Hox 인자와의 상호작용 및 Hox 비의존적 경로를 통해 기능합니다. PBX4 단백질은 homeobox DNA-binding domain을 포함하지만, 구체적인 기능은 아직 명확히 규명되지 않았습니다. 이 유전자에서는 대체 스플라이싱된 전사체 변이도 관찰되었습니다.
