Target Information

BRSK1 (SAD1) is a serine/threonine kinase involved in UV-induced DNA damage checkpoint regulation. It is highly expressed in the brain and testes and plays a role in stress-induced cell cycle arrest. Overexpression leads to G2/M arrest in HeLa S2 cells, while reduced expression can partially abrogate UV-induced G2/M arrest, highlighting its role in DNA damage checkpoint function.

BRSK1 and its homolog BRSK2 are essential for mammalian neuronal polarization. Double-mutant mice lacking both BRSK1 and BRSK2 die shortly after birth, and their neurons exhibit uniformly sized neurites with mixed axonal and dendritic markers. At least two isoforms of BRSK1 are known to exist.
