Target Information
BCAS1 was identified through positional cloning and found to be overexpressed in most breast cancer cell lines. BCAS1 is cytoplasmically localized and forms homodimers through coiled-coil structures. High BCAS1 mRNA levels are observed in brain and prostate tissues, with lower levels in colon, intestine, and testis. Overexpression does not alter anchorage-dependent growth or proliferation rate, suggesting BCAS1 is not a typical oncogene. It is also amplified in pancreatic carcinoma, indicating a potential role in cell proliferation control.
