Target Information
FBJ murine osteosarcoma viral oncogene homolog, commonly known as Cellular protooncogene Fos (c-Fos), belongs to the fos transcription factor family and is encoded by the C-FOS gene located on chromosome 14.
c-Fos forms a heterodimer with c-Jun to create the Activator Protein-1 (AP-1) transcription factor, which regulates expression of various genes involved in cellular signal transduction, proliferation, and differentiation.
It is phosphorylated by multiple stimuli including growth factors and insulin at several sites. The best-known upstream kinase for phosphorylation at Threonine 232 is ERK MAPK, which controls nuclear localization and transcriptional activity of c-Fos.
