Target Information
The notch gene family encodes transmembrane proteins with multiple cysteine-rich EGF-like repeats in the extracellular region. Four mammalian notch genes (Notch1, Notch2, Notch3, and Notch4/Int-3) are involved in differentiation of the nervous system and other structures. EGF-like proteins Delta and Serrate act as ligands for Notch1. Mature Notch proteins form heterodimeric receptors composed of an extracellular subunit (NEC) and a transmembrane subunit (Ntm).
