Target Information
APEH (acylpeptide hydrolase) catalyzes the hydrolysis of terminal acetylated amino acids from small acetylated peptides. The resulting acetyl amino acid is further processed to acetate and a free amino acid by aminoacylase.
The APEH gene is located on chromosome 3 (3p21), near the aminoacylase gene. Deletions in this region are associated with reduced aminoacylase activity.
APEH is a homotetrameric protein (~300 kDa), with each subunit containing 732 amino acids. It plays a key role in removing oxidatively damaged proteins in cells.
