Target Information
APEH (Acylpeptide hydrolase) catalyzes the hydrolysis of terminal acetylated amino acids from small acetylated peptides. The resulting acetyl amino acid is further processed to acetate and a free amino acid by an aminoacylase.
The APEH gene is located on chromosome 3 (3p21), near the aminoacylase gene, and deletions in this region can reduce aminoacylase activity.
APEH is a homotetrameric protein (~300 kDa) with subunits of 732 amino acids and is involved in the degradation of oxidatively damaged proteins in cells.
