Target Information
This gene encodes a nuclear protein with similarity to the Drosophila male-specific lethal-3 gene. The Drosophila protein is involved in dosage compensation, equalizing X-linked gene expression between males and females. The encoded human protein is thought to play a similar role in chromatin remodeling and transcriptional regulation. This gene undergoes X inactivation and has four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
