Target Information
Zinc finger protein SNAI1 (SNAIL) is a zinc finger transcriptional repressor that downregulates the expression of ectodermal genes within the mesoderm and functions in the formation of mesoderm and neural crest.
SNAI1 is an important factor in tumor invasion through E-cadherin downregulation and induction of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).
In human breast cancer, expression of SNAI1 and/or its homolog SNAI2 (Slug) is associated with E-cadherin repression, metastasis, tumor recurrence, and poor prognosis.
Snail 1 protein in the stroma may serve as a potential prognostic marker for colon tumors.
