Target Information

This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family, characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid F-box motif. F-box proteins are part of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex (SCF), which functions in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. They are divided into three classes:

• Fbws: containing WD-40 domains
• Fbls: containing leucine-rich repeats
• Fbxs: containing other interaction modules or no recognizable motifs

The encoded protein belongs to the Fbxs class and contains an F-box domain. It is highly expressed during muscle atrophy, while deficiency in this gene confers resistance to atrophy in mice. This makes it a potential drug target for the treatment of muscle atrophy. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding isoforms of different sizes.
