Target Information
CD146 (MCAM) is an integral membrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed at cell-cell junctions in endothelial cells and other normal and malignant cell types. CD146 functions as a calcium-independent adhesion molecule and may also act in signal transduction through Fyn kinase, influencing tyrosine phosphorylation and actin cytoskeleton assembly. It plays roles in endothelial cohesion, melanoma cell interaction with vascular elements, and may participate in neural crest cell adhesion during embryonic development. CD146 also acts as a surface receptor that triggers phosphorylation of FYN and PTK2, and transiently increases intracellular calcium concentration.
