Product Specific Information
- For immunohistochemistry (PFA-fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Calponin is a thin filament-associated protein involved in the regulation and modulation of smooth muscle contraction. It binds to actin, calmodulin, troponin C, and tropomyosin.
Calponin is expressed in smooth muscle and tissues containing significant smooth muscle components. Two isoforms exist (34 kDa and 29 kDa). The 29 kDa isoform is mainly expressed in the urogenital tract.
Expression has been observed in myoepithelial cells from benign and malignant breast lesions. It stains smooth muscle, myoepithelial cells, myofibroblasts, keratinocytes, and nerve fibers.
Calponin helps differentiate breast collagenous spherulosis (positive) from adenoid cystic carcinoma and is also positive in adenoid cystic carcinoma of salivary gland tumors.
