Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa, and isoelectric pH between 4.9 and 7.8. Each cytokeratin subtype is numbered 1 to 20, with expression patterns varying by tissue type and differentiation stage. These patterns are valuable in distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in differential diagnosis of tumors via immunohistochemistry, and are useful tools in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
