Target Information
Tryptase gamma (TPSG1), also known as serine protease 31 or transmembrane tryptase, is an enzyme encoded by the TPSG1 gene in humans. Tryptases belong to the trypsin-like serine protease family (peptidase family S1) and are active only as heparin-stabilized tetramers, resistant to endogenous proteinase inhibitors. Several tryptase genes are located on chromosome 16p13.3, with four functional genes identified: alpha I, beta I, beta II, and gamma I. Beta tryptases are mainly expressed in mast cells, while alpha tryptases are predominant in basophils. TPSG1 differs from other family members by possessing a C-terminal hydrophobic domain that may function as a membrane anchor. Tryptases are implicated in asthma and other allergic or inflammatory disorders.
