Target Information
This locus exhibits a complex imprinted expression pattern, producing maternally, paternally, and biallelically expressed transcripts from four alternative promoters and 5′ exons. Some transcripts include a differentially methylated region (DMR) at their 5′ exons, commonly found in imprinted genes and correlated with transcript expression.
This gene also produces an antisense transcript. Both one of the transcripts and the antisense transcript are paternally expressed noncoding RNAs that may regulate imprinting in this region.
Additionally, one transcript contains a second overlapping ORF encoding an unrelated protein (Alex). Alternative splicing of downstream exons results in multiple forms of the stimulatory G-protein alpha subunit, a key element in receptor-ligand signal transduction via adenylyl cyclase activation.
Additional transcript variants have been identified, though their full-length nature and biological validity remain undetermined.
