Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes complement component 4c (C4c). The complement 1 complex cleaves complement 4 (C4) to form C4b and C4a. C4b levels are strictly regulated.
Target Information
C4B may be involved in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a chronic, relapsing, inflammatory, and often febrile multisystemic disorder of connective tissue. It is characterized by involvement of the skin, joints, kidneys, and serosal membranes. The disease is thought to result from failure of autoimmune regulatory mechanisms. Susceptibility to SLE is associated with variations affecting the C4 gene, including copy-number variation (CNV) and polymorphisms. Individuals with fewer copies of total C4 show increased risk, while higher copy numbers are protective.
