VHL 단백질은 elongin B, elongin C, cullin-2를 포함하는 단백질 복합체의 구성 요소로, ubiquitin ligase E3 활성을 가집니다.
이 단백질은 산소에 의해 유전자 발현을 조절하는 전사인자 HIF의 유비퀴틴화 및 분해에 관여합니다.
RNA polymerase II의 하위 단위 POLR2G/RPB7 또한 이 단백질의 표적 중 하나로 보고되었습니다.
서로 다른 isoform을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사 변이체가 관찰되었습니다.
