Product Specific Information

Clone INN-hCG-68 recognizes hCG (Beta 7 epitope) under non-reducing conditions.
MA1-82291 recognizes free human chorionic gonadotropin beta (hCG beta), but does not bind to holo-hCG, holo-LH, or free LH beta.

Target Information

hCG beta is the beta chain of Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a 40 kDa glycoprotein hormone produced by trophoblastic cells of the placenta beginning 10–12 days after conception.

hCG is composed of alpha and beta subunits that are non-covalently associated.

  • The alpha subunit is common to pituitary hormones (FSH, LH, TSH).
  • The beta subunit confers biological specificity.

During the first trimester of pregnancy, hCG binds to the corpus luteum, stimulating progesterone production to maintain the secretory endometrium. hCG levels rise sharply during pregnancy and are present only in trace amounts in non-pregnant urine and serum.

Diseases associated with hCG dysfunction include gestational trophoblastic tumor, hydatidiform mole, and recurrent pregnancy loss.
