Aldh5A1은 aldehyde dehydrogenase superfamily에 속하는 효소로, 다양한 지방족 및 방향족 알데하이드를 산화시키는 NAD(P)(+)-의존 효소입니다. 이러한 효소들은 알코올 대사 및 지질 과산화로 생성된 알데하이드의 해독에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
Aldh5A1은 미토콘드리아 NAD(+)-의존성 succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase로, 이 효소의 결핍(4-hydroxybutyricaciduria)은 GABA 대사 장애를 유발하며, 발달 지연, 저긴장증, 운동 실조, 언어 장애, 발작 등의 증상을 동반할 수 있습니다.
최소 두 가지 isoform이 알려져 있습니다.
