Target Information
EEF2K is a highly conserved serine/threonine kinase in the calmodulin signaling pathway. Its activity is increased in cancers, including breast cancer. EEF2K regulates protein synthesis by controlling peptide chain elongation. Upon activation by upstream kinases such as AMPK or TRPM7, EEF2K phosphorylates elongation factor EEF2 at a single site, rendering EEF2 unable to bind ribosomes and thereby reducing the rate of protein synthesis.
