Target Information
Human Rad18 (hRad18) is homologous to the S. pombe Rad18. In yeast, Rad6 and Rad18 are crucial in post-replication repair, particularly in gap-filling of daughter strands during replication of damaged DNA. The Rad6–Rad18 complex acts at early lesion bypass stages, where Rad18’s single-stranded DNA binding property helps target damaged sites. The human RAD18 gene, located on chromosome 3p24–25, encodes a 495 amino acid protein (~56 kDa) and is expressed ubiquitously in human tissues. Deletions in this region are associated with several cancers, including lung, breast, ovary, and testis.
