Product Specific Information
This antibody specifically recognizes an epitope encoded by exons v3–v10 on the variant portion of human CD44.
Standard CD44 (CD44s) lacks the entire variable region and is mainly found in lymphohematopoietic cells.
Multiple isoforms (designated CD44v; v = variant) contain alternatively spliced exons inserted within the extracellular domain.
These isoforms include CD44v1–CD44v11.
Applications Tested: Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin), Western Blotting.
Target Information
CD44 is a 100 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed on human leukocytes, brain white matter, and certain epithelial cells of the intestine and breast.
Several isoforms exist, including the predominant CD44H isoform found in many normal tissues.
CD44 acts as a receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA) and is involved in cell–cell interactions, adhesion, and migration.
It also plays roles in lymphocyte activation, recirculation, and homing.
Expression may increase in certain carcinomas, potentially relating to metastatic potential.
