Target Information

Van Gogh (VANGL2) is a vertebrate homolog of the Drosophila strabismus protein and a component of the frizzled-disheveled tissue polarity pathway.
VANGL2 interacts with DVL1, DVL2, and DVL3 through its C-terminal region and functions as a tumor suppressor.
It plays a critical role in early morphogenesis, axial patterning, and planar cell polarity, particularly in the orientation of stereociliary bundles in the cochlea.
VANGL2 is also required for polarization and movement of myocardializing cells, acting via RHOA signaling.
It is expressed in a wide range of tissues.
