Target Information

Van Gogh-like 2 (VANGL2) is a 521 amino acid protein homologous to Drosophila strabismus 1, and a component of the frizzled–disheveled tissue polarity pathway.
It interacts via its C-terminal region with the N-terminal halves of DVL1, DVL2, and DVL3, functioning as a potent tumor suppressor.
VANGL2 is primarily involved in early morphogenesis, axial midline patterning, and neural plate development.
It plays a key role in planar cell polarity regulation, particularly in the orientation of stereociliary bundles in the cochlea.
Additionally, VANGL2 is essential for the polarization and movement of myocardializing cells, acting through RHOA signaling.
It is expressed in a wide range of tissues.
