Target Information
This gene encodes an activating transcription factor belonging to the ATF subfamily and bZIP (basic-region leucine zipper) family. It regulates downstream genes associated with growth, survival, and cellular activities. The protein is phosphorylated at serine 63 by several kinases including PKA, CaMK I/II, MSK, and CDK3, which enhances transactivation and cell transformation. Gene fusions with FUS (chromosome 16) or EWSR1 (chromosome 22) produce chimeric proteins implicated in angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and clear cell sarcoma. A pseudogene exists on chromosome 6.
