Target Information
Endoplasmic reticulum aminopeptidase 1 (ERAP1) is a 120 kDa protein localized to the ER lumen, responsible for trimming NH₂-terminal residues from antigenic precursors for MHC class I peptide presentation. ERAP1 processes peptides of 9 amino acids or more and is induced by interferon-gamma. The human ERAP1 gene maps to chromosome 5q15 and has been described as adipocyte-derived leucine aminopeptidase (A-LAP), puromycin-insensitive leucine-specific aminopeptidase (PILS-AP), and aminopeptidase regulator of TNFR1 shedding (ARTS-1). A-LAP may regulate blood pressure by inactivating angiotensin II, PILS-AP may influence angiogenesis, and ARTS-1 promotes TNFR1 shedding. Further research is needed to fully elucidate its functions.
