Target Information
Fis1 is a 17 kDa integral membrane protein involved in mitochondrial fission. It contains a leucine-zipper domain, a coiled-coil region, a tetratricopeptide repeat domain, and a C-terminal transmembrane domain. Fis1 is localized to the outer mitochondrial membrane and acts as a pro-apoptotic factor, playing a key role in mitochondrial fission regulation. It interacts with DLP1 and Mdv1p to facilitate Dnm1p recruitment to the fission complex, promoting apoptosis. Fis1 is also implicated in peroxisome growth and division. Loss of Fis1 inhibits apoptosis and results in mitochondrial elongation.
