Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Amyloid beta peptide (Abeta/Beta-amyloid) is the major constituent of amyloid plaques in the brains of individuals afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. Abeta peptide (40–43 amino acids) is generated from the beta-amyloid precursor protein (beta APP) through sequential cleavage by beta-secretase (BACE) and gamma-secretase.
Gamma-secretase, a multi-subunit complex containing presenilin-1 and presenilin-2, mediates intramembrane cleavage to produce the amyloid beta peptide. Nicastrin, a transmembrane glycoprotein, interacts with presenilins and modulates Abeta production.
Abeta accumulates extracellularly as filamentous deposits in amyloid cores, neuritic plaques, and neurofibrillary tangles, characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease and other amyloid-related disorders such as Lewy body dementia, Down’s syndrome, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and the Guam Parkinson-Dementia complex.
