Target Information

Enhancer-binding elongation factor that specifically binds enhancers in embryonic stem cells (ES cells), marking them for future activation during stem cell specification. It binds enhancer regions of both active and poised genes and is required for proper RNA polymerase II occupancy at developmentally regulated genes in a cohesin-dependent manner.
Likely primes developmentally regulated genes for later recruitment of the super elongation complex (SEC) during differentiation and is required for P-TEFb recruitment within SEC. May be preloaded on germ cell chromatin, suggesting a role in early enhancer marking.
Functions as an elongation factor component of the SEC, enhancing RNA polymerase II transcription elongation, and as part of the little elongation complex (LEC) regulating small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene transcription (PubMed:22195968).
