Target Information
Kinesins are microtubule-dependent motor proteins responsible for the distribution of organelles, vesicles, and macromolecular complexes throughout the cell.
KIF1B, a member of the KIF1/Unc104 family, is involved in mitochondrial and synaptic vesicle transport in axons.
It is an amino-terminal-type motor protein, expressed ubiquitously with high levels in differentiated nerve cells.
The human KIF1B gene maps to chromosome 1p36.2, and mutations may cause peripheral neuropathy.
In mice, alternative splicing generates two isoforms of KIF1B.
