Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and assist in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein to rRNA ratio (in contrast to prokaryotic ribosomes). Mammalian mitoribosomes lack 5S rRNA and exhibit significant sequence diversity among species. The MRPS10 gene encodes a 28S subunit protein belonging to the ribosomal protein S10P family, with pseudogenes on chromosomes 1q, 3p, and 9p.
