Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the DEAD box protein family, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD). These proteins are putative RNA helicases involved in processes such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Some family members are implicated in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division.
This gene may play a role in the prognosis of patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors. A pseudogene exists on chromosome 13, and multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
