Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the DEAD box protein family, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD). These proteins are putative RNA helicases involved in various cellular processes that alter RNA secondary structure, including translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly.
Some members are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth/division.
This gene may play a role in the prognosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumors. A pseudogene is located on chromosome 13. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, though their full-length nature is not fully known.
