PIKFYVE는 세포 내 phosphatidylinositol의 인산화 상태를 조절하는 대형 지질 키나아제 패밀리에 속합니다. Endosomal membrane의 phosphatidylinositol 3,5-bisphosphate(PtdIns(3,5)P2) 함량은 소포의 생성 및 흡수 과정에서 동적으로 변화합니다.
PIKFYVE는 PtdIns(3,5)P2를 생성하는 삼분자 복합체의 구성 요소이며, VAC14(활성화 인자) 및 FIG4(인산화 효소)와 함께 PtdIns(3,5)P2 수준을 정밀하게 조절합니다. 또한 PIKFYVE는 phosphoinositide 5-kinase 활성 외에도 protein kinase 활성을 가지고 있습니다.
