Target Information
FGF18 is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family, which plays key roles in mitogenic and cell survival activities. These factors are involved in embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion.
In vitro studies show FGF18 induces neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells. Research on mouse and chick proteins suggests FGF18 acts as a pleiotropic growth factor stimulating proliferation in tissues such as liver and small intestine. Knockout studies in mice indicate its role in regulating proliferation and differentiation of midline cerebellar structures.
