This antibody has specificity for Mouse Fas Ligand/FASLG/CD95L.

Target Information

CD178 (Fas ligand, FasL) is a type-II membrane protein with its N-terminus in the cytoplasm and the C-terminal region extending into the extracellular space. Its receptor, FasR, is a cell-surface type-I membrane protein and a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) receptor family.
As a TNF-cytokine family member, CD178 induces apoptosis upon interaction with FasR. CD178 exists in membrane-bound (45 kD) or soluble (26 kD) forms, the latter released by metalloproteinase cleavage.
Binding of CD178 to Fas leads to receptor oligomerization and triggers apoptosis through downstream protein interactions. CD178 is predominantly expressed in activated T-lymphocytes and NK cells, as well as in immune-privileged tissues such as the testis and eye. Expression is also reported in thymus, liver, ovary, lung, heart, and kidney.
CD178-mediated apoptosis plays a key role in antiviral immune responses. The Fas/CD178 system is implicated in immune regulation, T-cell cytotoxicity, and diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis, cancer, atherosclerosis, and inflammatory disorders.
