Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and plays a vital role in brain development.
Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene are associated with various tumors such as anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer.
Chromosomal rearrangement often leads to a fusion gene between ALK (chromosome 2) and NPM (chromosome 5), producing the oncogenic NPM-ALK fusion protein.
ALK exhibits significant sequence similarity to LTK and influences neuronal development and function.
