Target Information
NSUN4 is a 5-methylcytosine rRNA methyltransferase involved in mitochondrial ribosome assembly. It plays a role in the maturation of the mitochondrial small ribosomal subunit (SSU) by methylating 12S rRNA. This function is independent of MTREFD2/MTERF4 and the assembled large subunit (LSU). NSUN4 is targeted to the LSU by MTREFD2/MTERF4, contributing to the final step of ribosome biogenesis to ensure proper SSU and LSU assembly.
