• Specificity Comments:
  ALDH1A1 belongs to the ALDH enzyme family, comprising 19 isoforms localized in the cytoplasm, mitochondria, or nucleus. ALDH1A1 is predominantly expressed in the epithelium of testis, brain, eye, liver, kidney, and in neural and hematopoietic stem cells.
  High ALDH1A1 expression is found in solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) and hemangiopericytoma (HPC), compared to meningiomas and synovial sarcomas. In combination with CD34, ALDH1A1 may help differentiate SFT, HPC, meningioma, and synovial sarcoma.

Target Information

ALDH1A1 is a member of the aldehyde dehydrogenase family, enzymes involved in the oxidative pathway of alcohol metabolism. Two major liver isoforms—cytosolic and mitochondrial—differ in electrophoretic mobility, kinetics, and subcellular localization.
Most Caucasians possess both isozymes, while about 50% of Orientals lack the mitochondrial isozyme, correlating with a higher frequency of acute alcohol intoxication.
