Target Information
CRTH2 (GPR44) is a chemoattractant receptor-homologous molecule expressed on Th2 cells that acts as a receptor for prostaglandin D2 (PGD2). It mediates chemotaxis of Th2 cells and eosinophils to PGD2, playing a key role in allergic responses.
CRTH2 knockout mice exhibit enhanced eosinophil recruitment and increased IL-5 and IL-3 production, suggesting that CRTH2 restricts eosinophilia and allergic responses.
CRTH2 is selectively expressed in Th2 lineage cells, with two transcripts identified:
- 3.5 kb transcript in thalamus, frontal cortex, pons, hippocampus
- 3.4 kb transcript in fetal liver, leukocytes, thymus
Single nucleotide polymorphisms in the 3′ UTR of the CRTH2 gene have been associated with asthma susceptibility.
