Target Information
Zinc finger protein SNAI1 (SNAIL) is a zinc finger transcriptional repressor that downregulates ectodermal gene expression within the mesoderm and is essential for mesoderm and neural crest formation.
SNAI1 plays a key role in tumor invasion by inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) through E-cadherin down-regulation.
In human breast cancer, expression of SNAI1 and/or SNAI2 (Slug) correlates with E-cadherin repression, metastasis, tumor recurrence, and poor prognosis.
Snail 1 protein in the stroma may serve as a potential prognostic marker for colon tumors.
