Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the natriuretic peptide family, which regulates extracellular fluid volume and electrolyte homeostasis. It is synthesized as a large precursor containing a signal peptide, processed to release two peptides: one with vasoactive similarity (cardiodilatin) and another with natriuretic-diuretic activity. Mutations in this gene have been linked to atrial fibrillation familial type 6.
