Target Information
CD73 (Ecto-5'-nucleotidase, 5'-ribonucleotide phosphohydrolase) catalyzes the conversion of purine 5'-mononucleotides to nucleosides at neutral pH, with AMP as the preferred substrate.
It forms a dimer of two identical 70 kDa subunits anchored externally to the plasma membrane via a glycosyl phosphatidylinositol linkage.
CD73 serves as a marker for lymphocyte differentiation; deficiency is associated with various immunodeficiency diseases.
Other 5'-nucleotidase forms exist in cytoplasm and lysosomes and differ in substrate affinity, magnesium ion requirements, ATP activation, and phosphate inhibition.
The CD73 gene is localized to chromosome 6q14–q21. Mutations may cause joint and arterial calcification or intestinal tuberculosis.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms of CD73 have been identified.
